BRAIN4TRAIN.Development of innovative training contents based on the applicability of Virtual Reality in the field of Stroke Rehabilitation
Objetivos
CVA diseases are very common in EU countries; According to some published statistics, over a third of stroke survivors in the EU are dependent on others, of those 1 in 5 are cared for by family and/or friends. One of the main causes of the lack of independence of neurological patients in general is the loss of coordination and balance, which can also affect the mobility to perform the activities of the daily living (ADL) safely.
In this sense, the physical rehabilitation can improve functions and can achieve remarkable recoveries for someone who suffered a neurological disease. The long-term goal of rehabilitation is to achieve that these patient can become as independent as possible.
Despite the opportunities of the new biomechanical systems technology for improving clinical management of neurological patients, a lack of knowledge among professionals about its applicability and translation to clinical context is unquestionable. Many physicians from the EU continue focusing their diagnosis only on the information coming from traditional clinical tests, what is clearly insufficient in the assessment and rehabilitation of certain musculoskeletal disorders, such as those caused by CVA.
All the contents, developed in online format, will be focused to stimulate not only the healthcare sector but also companies and private sector which develop technological solutions for them. This project should contribute to improve the management of neurological patients, incorporating new complementary methods to traditional ones while developing a shared and harmonized language and knowledge across different agents that act in the rehabilitation of neurological patients. In addition, this project will foster to the key stakeholders to promote by themselves the acquisition of new technologies and to contribute in this way to modernize the healthcare sector at EU.
Objectives
The main objective of the project is the development, validation and transfer of Body Knowledge, focused on the applicability of new biomechanical systems and VR technologies, in order to improve clinical treatment of neurological diseases, especially CVA in Europe. Content generation will be focused on the main interest areas of the health professionals, especially those related with neurological rehabilitation.
